17th November 2012: Flintknapping with the North Downs YACs

I joined the North Downs YACs at Maidstone Museum (Kent) for an afternoon full of lithics, for my last public flintknapping event of 2012. Around 20 YACs, their leaders and family, including members of the museum public, watched while I gave them a demonstration and talked about the art of knapping stone.

The enthusiastic YACs were then divided into three groups, so that they could spend around 30 minutes flintknapping with me, 30 minutes with volunteer Angela looking at Benjamin Harrison (amateur naturalist and archaeologist from 1880's) collection of naturally formed eoliths and worked flints, plus a further 30 minutes with Susan Cottee focusing on archeological illustration and drawing the stone tools.

I think they all enjoyed the afternoon and hopefully I can return one day to give them another go (and have a proper look around the museum)
