31st December 2013: Review of the Year


Another busy year for Ancientcraft, with filming for Time Team, several new clients and extending the Living History services to include Key Stage 2 & 3 history changes for primary schools.

1st December 2013: Green Screen Filming with Time Team


Following filming with Time Team at Low Hauxley is (Northumberland) on 7th August, I was invited to return for additional green screen filming at Bristol. I was joined by three other Bronze Age reenactors, film crew and two friendly skeletons for a full day.

27th November 2013: "Are you a Flintstone?"- Holymead Primary School


Holymead Primary School in Bristol invited me to perform Stone Age Living History demonstration as part of their new Year 3 project focus called "Are You a Flintstone?"

16th November 2013: Essex Society for Archaeology & History


I was asked to demonstrate various flintknapping techniques for the Essex Society for Archaeology and History on the afternoon of 16th November. This was to be held at the Chelmsford Museum for the enjoyment of the society members.

7th August 2013: Filming with Channel 4's Time Team


I took part in filming as part of a Team Time Special, taking part in a Shaman ritual demonstration at night on a beach at Low Hauxley is (Northumberland).

The regular cast Francis Pryor, Tony Robinson and Phil Harding were talking to specialist Dr Ffion Reynolds, who I had worked with in Anglesey earlier in the year.

4th August 2013: 4 x4 Voyager with Woodland Ways


Something a little different - a 4 x 4 voyager course driving a Land Rover Defender 110 with Woodland Ways in a National Forest, on farmland with a purpose built 4x4 off road driving course. Followed by a short survival course and preparation of wood pigeon for our lunch.

3rd August 2013: Flintknapping at Braintree Museum


I performed a flintknapping demonstration at the Braintree Museum as part of their Archaeology Week. Around 30 children and adults attending and all seemed very interested.

29th July August 2013: Excavation at Avebury Avenue


I enjoyed a few days of archaeology at a University excavation in Avebury Avenue.

27July 2013: Flintknapping at Hertford Museum


Over 250 people visited the Hertford Museum to watch me do a flintknapping demo as part of the Stone Age re-enactment to mark the Festival of Archaeology, in the beautiful gardens at the rear of the building.

28th June-26th July 2013: Ice Age Island


Four weeks of flintknapping on Jersey as part of the Ice Age Island Project, being run by Jersey Heritage. I was at different locations throughout the month and new meeting people along the way.

22nd June 2013: Flintknapping at Bryn Celli Ddu


I was asked to participate in a Neolithic summer solstice public event at Bryn Celli Ddu (the mound in the dark grove) in Anglesey, organised by the Public Engagement Manager at Cadw. I would be one of several reenacters and archaeologists on a very windy day.

6th May 2013: Flintknapping at Old Sarum


I was flintknapping all afternoon at Old Sarum, as part of the English Heritage "SIEGE" event, where members of The Medieval Siege Society lay siege to the Castle, recreating The Wars of the Roses.

27/28th April 2013: Prehistoric Weekend with Will Lord


I was invited by Beyond 2000BC with Will Lord (and his parents Val and John Lord) to help out as a flintknapping instructor at his "sold-out" Prehistoric Weekend in Rougham, Suffolk.

20th April 2013: Flintknapping with Canterbury YAC


I always enjoy supporting and demonstrating flintknapping to Young Archaeologist Clubs and working with the Canterbury YAC branch was no exception.

13th & 14 April 2013: Flintknapping at Ancient Technology Centre


Over the weekend I was invited to perform a full Stone Age living history (including flintknapping demonstrations) at the Ancient Technology Centre in Dorset. This was to form part of their annual Stone Age Weekend.

6th April 2013: Conservation of Waterlogged Wood


Today I went on a Nautical Archaeology Society (Part III) run course covering the conservation methods of waterlogged wood. This was held at the Historic Dockyard in Portsmouth.

9th March 2013: Stone Age Family Fun Day


My first public event of 2013 was at the Royston and District Museum and Art Gallery. Although I have done several events there over the years, this was the first time it was dedicated to the Stone Age and also the first outing for my replica Stone Age deer skin dwelling.

28th January 2013: Experimental Archaeology: Neolithic House Construction (1)


I joined a team of around 20 volunteers at the Ancient Technology Centre to gather materials that will eventually be used in the construction of three Neolithic Houses, based on excavations of house plans at Durrington Walls. This was the first part of a project awarded English Heritage, to build a prototype at Old Sarum (March) and the final reconstructions will be built outside the new Stonehenge Visitor Centre (October).
