Axe head description
An unusual rock from James's home county of Hertfordshire.
Puddingstone was used to produce quern stones, jewellery and even ward off evil!
It is a conglomerate of smooth flint pebbles embedded in a fine pale sand matrix that started forming around 80 million years ago. An example of a Neolithic puddingstone axe can be seen in Stockwood Discovery Centre.
